#17: Diet Ideology & Surviving The Holidays

PUFA, Saturated Fat, Trans Fats

This is episode 17 of Evil Sugar Radio. In this episode, we cover a variety of topics. First, we talk a little trash about diet gurus and their followers, including informing you of the very surprising fact that Suzanne Somers isn’t a diet expert.

We answer some listener questions about salt, PUFAs, how to gain mass as a skinny dude, driving a caloric surplus with processed foods, and healing digestive health. Then we’ll touch on 3 current events: the proposed trans fat ban, an article exonerating saturated fat, and the upcoming “Survive The Holidays” mentality.

Finally, Antonio has a few stories to tell that may or may not have anything to do with anything health-related, but are always entertaining.

As always, if you’re enjoying the show, please rate us in iTunes.

  1. Thanks so much for answering my questions, guys.

Reading up on salt is proving tricky. You’ve got one source that you recommended, Harvard, saying that the recent media controversy should be ignored – that the recommendations of 1500mg/day are accurate and that the New York Times is being misleading.

On the other hand, you’ve got the other source you recommended (the New York Times) saying that the old health recommendations are wrong and that we should be eating more of it.

    Ay caramba.

  2. Please share your best place to get cheesecake in NY!!

  3. You guys are awesome! Thanks so much for answering my question really appreciate it. I was shocked when answered the question the next episode.

1)I always laugh when some paleos try and say we need to only be eating nutrient rich foods. Try doing that if your an athlete and need to consumer 3000- 4000cals a day to maintain weight. Either you wont be able to or you will have some crazy gut issues trying to digest excessive amount of fibre.
    2) From my reading is that as long as you don’t go crazy with vegetable oils and aren’t cutting out heaps of carbohydrates rich foods and substituting with a high fat diet to compensate you don’t really get very close to the 4% pufas of calorie intake.

  4. you seem to attack other people….why?
just tell your story and not bad mouth other peoples views…..
people in glass houses should not throw stones.

  5. Better response for Ken: Can you give a specific example? That would be more helpful. Also, we make it *crystal clear* that we first attack ideas, second attack people are charlatans, these people are cheating others out of their money and preying on their insecurities or ignorance. Therefore what you perceive is an attack, is not really. It is, in fact, a public service announcement for others so they don’t waste their time, money or get false hopes from deceptive marketers who teach bad ideas that do not improve health & well being.

In fact I think we’ve only addressed two people in particular: Jimmy Moore who is the Benny Hill of diet, he is a liar, racist and giving out horribly inaccurate information to a gullible population. And Bulletproof Coffee scammer.
